UB Faculty Award for Excellence in Mentoring Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity
Nomination Deadline: March 20, 2011

The Office of the Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Education is pleased to call for nominations for the first Annual UB Faculty Award for Excellence in Mentoring Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity. By establishing this award the University recognizes the outstanding mentorship that currently exists at UB and seeks to encourage further faculty commitment and participation to the undergraduate research and creative experience.

Faculty selected for the UB Faculty Award for Excellence in Mentoring Undergraduates in Research and Creative Activity will be recognized for their contributions during the UB Celebration of Student Academic Excellence on April 6, 2011. Students, staff, and faculty are invited to nominate faculty who exhibit the qualities of good mentorship including, but not limited to:

· Establishing a strong professional mentoring relationship with the student(s);

· Acting as a role model for methods of inquiry or artistic expression in the chosen field of study and for the responsible and ethical conduct of research or creative activity;

· Demonstrating an ability to inspire students; and

· Supporting the dissemination of the student’s work through recognized professional outlets.

Application for Award
Each nomination should consist of a 300-500 word nomination package submitted via the link below. Nominations must be received no later than March 20, 2011. Faculty can be nominated based on the mentoring of a single student or the collective mentoring of many students over a sustained period. The nomination should indicate how the faculty nominated has been instrumental in the development of a student or students and why their mentoring was extraordinary. Specific examples of tangible benefits/impacts/successes arising from the mentoring relationship are helpful to the committee in their evaluation.

Questions regarding the nomination process may be directed to Dr. Letitia Thomas, lthomas@buffalo.edu, Undergraduate Research Team Coordinator. Thank you for your consideration and the potential nomination of deserving faculty.
