Jacquie Walker Scholarship – AAUW

Posted by Elizabeth on June 17, 2014 in Local Scholarship, Uncategorized

One merit-based scholarship in the amount of $5,000 will be awarded. This scholarship is given in honor of Jacquie Walker.
Ms. Walker has been the honorary chair of AAUW’s Scholarship Book Sale for several years and her community service has
greatly enriched the Western New York community.
Guidelines:
 The applicant must be a female attending college in the junior or senior class of the 2014 -2015 school year. Proof of
enrollment is required.
 The applicant must be a resident of one of the eight counties generally considered to comprise Western New York.
 The applicant must have graduated from high school in Western New York and provide a copy of her high school
diploma.
 The applicant must be a full-time student at any accredited four-year college or university.
 The applicant must demonstrate a strong commitment to COMMUNITY SERVICE.
 The scholarship is MERIT BASED.
 The applicant must submit two letters of recommendation: one from an academic recommender, one from a
community service supervisor. Each page must include name and phone number of the recommender.
 The applicant must submit official transcripts from all colleges attended since high school graduation.
 The letter of recommendation and transcripts may be sent in one of two ways:
1) Recommenders and colleges may send the documents directly to the address provided.
2) The applicant may obtain sealed original letters of recommendation and transcripts. These documents may be
sent by the applicant along with your application in a single envelope. This gives the greatest control over the
receipt of your application and supporting materials.
 In either case applicants are responsible to ensure that the documents are received by the deadline. Late supporting
materials or missing supporting materials will disqualify the application.
 The applicant must write a one page or longer essay on her community service involvement, why community service is
personally important and how she plans to continue service to the community in the future. Supporting materials may
be included.
 The applicant must attend a personal interview if requested to do so.
 Applications and supporting materials must be postmarked by July 15, 2014. Applications must be typed or printed.
Awards will be presented in September, 2014. AAUW board members may not apply.
